It was announced yesterday that the Alaskan cruise ship season is virtually ghosting 2021. I was commiserating over a beer with a friend about the dire implications this will have on businesses and many SE Alaska communities’ economies. Her response was spot on; she said, “don’t cry in your beer cause it will only water it down.” The discussion pivoted toward how fortunate we as Alaskans are regarding the percent of vaccinations given and case counts. We lead the nation in vaccinations given as a percent of the population and a top 3 state for the least number of contracted cases. She came up with a brilliant marketing idea for the most beautiful place in Alaska, Sitka. Marketing gurus can indeed develop something better than my slogan, “Sitka Alaska, the safest vacation destination in the US.”
